Application development

Use the Pega Platform to build applications that enable you to respond faster to the needs of your customers. The Pega Platform provides an enhanced developer experience and improved performance, enabling you to develop world-class applications that can help drive customer satisfaction.

DevOps is a culture of collaboration by Development, Quality, and Operations to address issues in all three spaces. A Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery pipeline is an automated process to quickly move applications from development through testing to deployment. The Pega Platform includes tools to support DevOps, keeps an open platform, provides hooks and services based on standards, and supports most popular tools.

Java and activities

To apply programming logic to an application, use features that are built-in to Designer Studio providing for coded procedural processing. This approach removes unnecessary custom code, supporting greater reuse of application rulesets and easier upgrades. Using the Data Transform rule or the Activity form, define step-through logic to call several built-in methods.

Reuse and version management

The Pega Platform supports reuse and sharing of rules through a range of features that affect rule resolution. Rule resolution chooses what version of a rule to use in a given circumstance. Rule reuse helps to reduce the number of rules you must build, test, and maintain

Testing applications

Testing applications is part of an iterative application development approach and release management. Testing features are built-in to the Designer Studio and are used to develop, iterate and release continuous application improvements.

Case management

Case Management is a process capability in the Designer Studio that supports the definition of a case and case type with all its associated information and content. Cases can then be created and thus follow the defined application process flows.

Correspondence may be part of business logic, whether it is an email, print, faxes or other types of notification. Correspondence rules can be defined to automate the creation and delivery of multiple types of notification.

Declaratives, decisions, and validation

Learn how to use declarative rules, decision rules and validation rules and how to use each for applying specific business logic for processing work.

Process (flows)

Enforcing business logic to your application process is done by creating business rules and applying them to the use cases and workflow the application requires. Work and work items in a process flow may need business logic applied to them for the process to continue or complete successfully.

Survey management

Pega Survey users can create and deploy surveys in their Pega Platform applications as well as customize how data is gathered. The robust design tools and variety of answer formats can quickly build a survey. Pega Survey integrates with case management applications, and surveys created with Pega Survey are fully functional in all major browsers.

Decision management

Decision Management capabilities help businesses optimize every customer relationship and interaction to satisfy both customer needs and business objectives at the same time. With Decision Management, business users can implement a management strategy that is personalized for each customer, and that guides every customer interaction and decision.

Integration and data

The Pega Platform's integration facilities provide multiple ways to control communication and messaging between your Pega Platform application and other systems and databases. Your application may control the response sent to a message received from an external system. Information may be mapped directly to properties or parsed and transformed.

Data management

During initial project design, business requirements help guide the creation of data structures for the application. The Data Management features provide editors and wizards to work with data and tables; and a Data Explorer to find, manage, and deploy data types and associated data pages (known previous to 7.1 as "declare pages")..

Data Management tools and features also help you meet the needs for business, application and system-level reporting.

Offline Support

The Pega Platform provides the ability to build offline-enabled applications. They offer a seamless experience for mobile employees who might work from locations with no network connectivity or whose devices might lose a network connection. Offline workers can log in, create cases, open items from their worklist, and complete assignments. Offline-enabled applications use the same building blocks as all Pega Platform applications.

Pega Mobility

Create a Pega mobile solution that is much more than an enterprise app accessed through a Web browser. Pega Mobility can support the way mobile users work, helping them be just as efficient in the field as they are in the office. The Pega Platform lets you bring applications to your mobile users and customers in several ways, depending on your needs, objectives, and experience.

System performance has a direct impact on user productivity and business value. User satisfaction depends on the user's perception of the system's accuracy, reliability, and response time. In addition, some applications have deadlines or cutoffs with direct business impacts, and must have sufficient capacity and performance to handle peak arrivals of new work.

Project delivery

Pega provides an adaptive approach to project methodologies. This section outlines the Pega Platform and Agile development, and how you can use them to build and deliver Pega solutions. An introduction to Direct Capture of Objectives shows how business analysts and the entire project team can get started using DCO.

Reporting is built in to the Designer Studio and provides many options for report creation, layout, and design. The reporting features include output format options and delivery capabilities, such as shared reports, personal reports, report email delivery, and report scheduling.

The security features of the Pega Platform allow systems administrators and application designers to control and monitor who can access the system, and who within that group can access specific capabilities of the applications on the system. The features are highly flexible and can be set to operate at a fine-detailed level or at very broad levels.

System administration

Every system requires ongoing administration, housekeeping, and management. The Pega Platform provides your systems operations staff with extensive facilities for managing the system itself and managing system-wide data.

Pega provides tools and procedures to make deployment easy on a wide variety of operating systems using the most popular application servers and database systems. Beyond installation instructions, this topic provides information on upgrading your application, and offers guidance on selecting a deployment platform.

User Interface

Leverage the power of the Pega Platform to deliver clean, responsive UI design in a simple yet elegant format.

Application accessibility

Accessibility is a crucial part of designing a user experience. Enterprise applications must be accessible for users that require assistive technologies. The Pega Platform user interface includes features and capabilities that enable everyone to use the applications you create.

Cloud development

Pega Cloud provides industry-leading infrastructure, enterprise-grade services, and operational excellence for Pega Platform and strategic application solutions in the cloud.
