Purpose

Email listeners provide PRPC with the information it needs to route email incoming messages to an email service rule (Rule-Service-Email rule type). They identify the Listener, the email account name, the name of the mail folder to monitor, the message format of the incoming messages, which email service rule to route messages to, and so on.

When an email listener routes a message that has files attached to it, the listener creates a page named pyAttachmentPage (of class Data-ServiceMessage) and puts the file(s) on that page, using the properties pyAttachNames and pyAttachValues. When you use the Email Wizard to configure inbound email, the generated service activity is configured to extract files from the pyAttachmentPage and attach them to the work item as work item attachments.

To create email listeners and email service rules, use the Email Wizard. See About the Email Wizard. If you create an email service implementation without using the wizard, create the email account instance and email service rules before you create the email listener.

Access

To review email listeners, select > Integration > Email > Email Listeners.

OldIn releases before V6.2SP2, an Email Server data class is used. In V6.2SP2+, Email Server data instances are obsolete, because all required information is contained in the Email Account rule. When you review email listeners, the word BLANKNAME appears under the Server Name heading. GRP-40495

Category

The Data-Admin-Connect-EmailListener class contains email listener data instances. They are part of the Integration-Resources category.

Associated RuleSet

When you save an email listener, if the Associated RuleSet is [none], the system completes this field with a RuleSet from the current application. This association assists with application packaging. You can update the associated RuleSet using the field in the upper right corner of the form. See Identifying parts of rule and data forms.

If there is no RuleSet associated with the data instance (for example, for existing instances not previously associated with a RuleSet), the Associated RuleSet displays [none].
