SOAP

SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) is a protocol that is used for the exchange of information in a decentralized, distributed environment. SOAP is an XML-based protocol with three components:

An envelope for describing what is in a message and how to process it
Encoding rules for expressing instances of application-defined data types
A convention for remote procedure calls and responses

Services implemented using SOAP are often called Web services. The SOAP standard is maintained by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) at WWW link www.w3c.org.

PRPC incorporates SOAP facilities from the Apache Software Foundation, including AXIS, an XML toolkit. See WWW link http://xml.apache.org.
