Purpose

Message rules define the text of messages. Messages become associated with a property on the clipboard or with a clipboard page to indicate that a property or page is invalid. The presence of a message on the clipboard does not directly cause that message text to be presented to an interactive user.

Message rules can support internationalization and localization of your application by presenting text in languages other than English and character sets other than the default ISO-8859-1 character set. Such messages rules are placed in a language-specific ruleset.

Message rules may include text parameters. At runtime, the system inserts supplied parameter text values at marked positions within the message text.

Where referenced

Messages may be referenced in five rule types:

• Activities
• Constraints
• Edit Input rules
• Validate rules
• Field value rules for localization

In an activity, use the Property-Set-Messages or Page-Set-Messages method to associate a message with a clipboard property or page.

Access

Use the Records Explorer to list all message rules available to you.
