Working with custom fields

To add, edit, or create new custom fields, use the Custom Field dialog found on the History tab of a rule form. Before you start, ensure that the rule is unlocked and accessed from a supported browser version of Internet Explorer.

To find rules with custom fields defined, run the Find Rules by Custom Field wizard.

 

Add a custom field

Take the following actions in the Custom Field dialog:

  1. Click Add Field to make the New Field section visible.
  2. Choose a name from the list of properties to populate the Name field.
    Alternatively, enter a string (letters and digits only) directly in this  field to create a new property with the specified name.
  3. If you entered a string in the Name field, select a Type for the property.
    For existing properties, this field is populated and read-only.
  4. For properties of Type File:
    1. Enter a brief description of the file in the Description field.
    2. Select the Upload file or Existing file radio button to indicate how you will provide the file.
    3. Click Browse to upload a file from your local system. The file you specify becomes an instance of Rule-File-Binary.
    4. Click the Pick a file button to select a file previously linked to this property.
  5. For properties of Type Text:
  6. Click Add when you are finished configuring the custom field.
  7. Click Apply to close the window or click Add field to define additional custom fields.

Advanced featureAlthough the rule form automatically updates the Custom Fields list, your changes do not persist until you click Save in the rule form header.

 

Update an existing custom field

Take the following actions in the Edit Fields section of the Custom Field dialog:

  1. Click any row of Type Text to make the Value column available for editing.
  2. Enter new text or click the magnifying glass icon to select a value previously applied to this property.
  3. Delete any row to remove a custom field.
  4. Click Apply to close the window.

Advanced featureRemoving a row of Type File does not automatically delete the corresponding Rule-File-Binary instance.
