BIX fails to fetch properties for extract rule

Summary



The user is unable to select the properties (as the properties are not loading on clicking the gear) to configure the BIX extract rule. The Pega rules log file contains the TimeOutException. This issue is specific to MS SQL Server 2014 SP2.


Error Messages



An error occured on executing the query for the report definition - There was a problem getting a list: code: 0 SQLState: HY008 Message: The query has timed out.


Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create an extract rule.
  2. Click the gear button, for selecting the properties


Root Cause



A defect in Pegasystems’ code or rules. SQL query optimizer is not choosing the right execution plan. Same query works fine in SQL server 2014 but not in SQL server 2014 + SP2 .

Resolution



Follow the below steps to resolve the issue:
  1. Apply Hfix-31768 and Hfix-33431
  2. Create a new Data-Admin-System-Setting with named "reporting/useForceOrderHint" in "Pega-RULES" ruleset and set its vale to true.
