Could not reserve enough space for object heap

SA-22854

Summary

When attempting to run the installer - the Installation and Upgrade Assistant (IUA) - the installation immediately terminates with an error.

Error Messages

Run Update Wizard:
[java] Could not create the Java virtual machine.
[java] Error occurred during initialization of VM
[java] Could not reserve enough space for object heap

Steps to Reproduce

Run the IUA.

Root Cause

This error indicates that the computer attempting to run the Pega IUA cannot allocate sufficient memory to start the JVM process.

Resolution

The client machine running the installation process requires a few gigabytes of free RAM in order to run the installation process.

The maximum memory size for the IUA JVM is 1.5 GB, however the system should have additional free memory for native storage.
