Using iText for merging two PDF

SA-3268

Summary

User requirement is to merge two pdfs together, using iText software.

In the installation package the iText.2.1.7.jar is available under 114609_P715RC7\archives\pegadbinstall-classes.zip\lib\pega\iText-2.1.7.jar.

The iText has two licences one of which is commercial:

Following is the user query:

To use this iText commercially,  is this covered by the license that is part of the code PRPC application or again purchase a license?

Following is the quote of  iTextpdf.com pricing:

"Although iText is a free/open source software (F/OSS) project, giving you a lot of freedom and flexibility regarding the use of the iText software, this doesn’t mean you're free to do anything you want with the product: you have to respect the Affero General Public License (AGPL).

Buying a commercial license is mandatory as soon as you begin activities including distribution of iText software inside your product or deploying it on a network without disclosing the source code of your own applications under the AGPL license".

Resolution

iText Version 2 is included in the distribution media, and can be used without the requirement of purchasing an additional AGPL licence.

All versions of iText from version 3 onward are governed by an AGPL license (http://itextpdf.com/terms-of-use/agpl.php), which prevents us from including it in the PRPC distribution.
